PROVENIRE – The Latin root of the word “provenance”, “a record of ownership of a work of art used as a guide to authenticity or quality.”
Seems like every creative has a story behind what they do, huh? For me, it was when shit hit the fan. Growing up I lived in a household with both of my parents, my younger sister, and my brother who, unfortunately, was heavily disabled and suffered from terminal health conditions who passed away when I was 16. After that, and until very recently, I struggled heavily with finding joy in almost anything. I put down my guitar, locked my pencil in a drawer, and lost my soul in superficial, short-term pleasures. I gave up the few things that brought me joy and, at it’s culmination, it was enough to make me want to take my life. It wasn’t until I met two of my best friends, NXDVISUALS and Michael, that I found my passion and the empowerment to illustrate my vision through photography.
Growing up, I had always had a creative mind. I loved nothing more than to draw, paint, write music… I was creating with almost any medium I could get my hands on. After meeting these guys, though, I always knew that I wanted to share my visions and creativity with the world in a profound way, I just could never arrive at a final product I was truly satisfied with. Once I adopted my first Nikon, I found my artistic freedom.
My images focus on capturing and illustrating uncomfortable topics that may be difficult to start a conversation about, but that I feel a lot of people struggle with internally. My primary color, red, is the color of love AND hate. My masks, which I have been dedicating a lot of time to create by hand, touch on the different demons some of us struggle with daily. This all comes together to form the basis for my work – Find, understand, and don’t be afraid to talk about the dark parts of your mind. We all struggle in some way, but until we can learn to LOVE the things we silently HATE about ourselves, we will never truly see the beauty of our scenery.
I am PRØVENIRE, and this is my story in 24 megapixels.
